Slow Pyrolysis of Specialty Coffee Residues towards the Circular Economy in Rural Areas

Coffee, as one of the most consumed beverages, generates a wide variety waste materials that can be used biofuels and bio-products. Conventional pyrolysis in rural areas, improving circular bioeconomy these places. In this work, characterization slow specialty coffee residues, silverskin (CSS), spent (SC) were conducted at temperatures from 300 to 600 °C. Physico-chemical thermal analysis carried out. addition, quantification individual compounds acetic, formic, levulinic acids, caffeine, other minor was performed. The results indicate differences between both obtained fractions. biochar fraction for SC is lower all liquid higher, reaching maximum values 62 wt.% °C compared 47% CSS. higher yield corresponds contents hemicellulose extractives ash content. calculated calorific value solid fractions reaches 21.93 MJ/kg CSS 26.45 SC. Finally, biorefinery options major components also presented.
